Movember; why we should all know the real meaning behind it
Although many people get involved every November and join in by growing a spectacular moustache, many people are still unaware of the reasons why we should all know the real meaning behind Movember. Did you know that wives, girlfriends and sisters can get involved too? (Without needing to grow facial hair…)
‘’Our fathers, partners, brothers and friends face a health crisis that isn’t being talked about. Men are dying too young. We can’t afford to stay silent’’ say the Movember Foundation.
The Movember Foundation, in fact, are the only charity tackling men’s health globally covering everything from mental health and suicide prevention awareness to prostate and testicular cancer.
Independently funded, the foundation is able to invest in more innovative ways of not only raising money and supporting research, but also to raise awareness using more creative methods that better engage the male market.
The foundation aims to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25% – which alarmingly tells us how many male deaths could be prevented with a little more awareness and less taboo about symptoms and seeking medical attention early.
How to get involved in Movember
There are three ways you can get involved and helps raise funds and awareness this November;
- Sign up, ‘grow a mo, save a bro’ and help raise funds via friends and family.
- Take the move challenge whilst getting physically fit; once you’ve signed up, you can set your own personal Move challenge from learning to rock climb to running a marathon or working out in a fancy dress costume, all whilst raising funds.
- Host an event as a Mo Bro or Mo Sista – once you sign up, get everyone together to help raise funds however you like. For example, you could organize a dance off, dinner party, golf or football tournament, or just a fabulous party.
