Recently crowned National Trainee Barber of The Year Jay from Pall Mall Barbers Bishopsgate explains how to get the strongly in demand Mike McMeeken haircut.
Who is Mike McMeeken?
Mike McMeeken is an English rugby league player who plays as a second-row forward for the Castleford Tigers in the Super League. He’s also represented England at international level.
What is the haircut?
A short textured crop with a high fade.
What to ask your barber for?
Ask your barber for high 0.5 fade on the back & sides (you could even opt for a skin fade depending on how short you want to go). The top should be cut with plenty of texture going through the hair and the fringe needs to be cropped to a short length allowing the front of the hairline to sit straight.
Who would this look be suitable for?
First things first, you need a good head of hair to pull of this particular cut. A straight front hairline is going to help a lot. It’s not really one for the receding folk I’m afraid gents.
Guys looking for a low maintenance, stylish, on trend haircut. Does that sound like you?
How often do I need to get it cut?
If you want the look to be consistent I would suggest visiting the barbershop every 2-3 weeks to really maintain that sharp fade. As this is a very short tight haircut it will last approx. 4 weeks before losing shape and style.
How do I style at home?
Using a few spritzes of Sea Salt Spray, apply into dry hair with the use of a hair dryer to build foundation then add a finger tip amount of Pliable Clay from the root of the hair to the tip to create a medium hold and matt texture. This look can also be worn without product and left to dry naturally if you are short on time. Apply product for more style, texture and hold.
